Opportunities and Synergies

The 5G-HUB project will open a wide range of opportunities based on emerging technologies in the following fields:
• Network Interoperability based on the 3GPP standard
• New terminal antennas
• Software-Defined Radios (SDR) technology for user terminals
• Mission-critical services.

The 5G-HUB project will prove the integration of GEO governmental satellites within the expanding 5G ecosystems and beyond, focusing on gaining valuable industrial insights and deepening research on these systems.

Ensuring interoperability between different satellite systems is crucial for seamless communication across various governmental agencies and in diverse operational environments. Efforts to integrate satellite networks with terrestrial 5G ones can enhance the reach and flexibility of governmental communications. The integration will help decrease the cost per bit while lowering the cost of satellite terminals through the adoption of standardized technologies and economies of scale, which are expected to benefit the satellite communications industry.

By integrating the networks via smart gateways aligned with the GOVSATCOM framework, Mission-Critical services (MCx) gain dynamic awareness of available bandwidth and current latency, and seamlessly adjust their service profiles (e.g., feature prioritization, video compression, QoS settings).

Through the development and validation of an alternative 5G-based TN-NTN solution, the 5G-HUB project can help diversify and secure the EU GOVSATCOM infrastructure, ensuring continuous access even in sensitive or underserved regions. This would not only reinforce operational resilience but also support the ethical and mission-driven nature of our humanitarian aid and emergency support.

Synergies will be established with other EU GOVSATCOM framework projects, particularly those focused on developing and testing the EU G-HUB platform.
